On one of my walks along the Provo River, I noticed Ivy Hall school children playing outside at recess. Their presence intrigued me, and so I approached one of the adult staff and asked her to tell me who the children were. She informed me that they were Ivy Hall students.

I was impressed by how content the children seemed, and so I looked up Ivy Hall online. The school’s vision, mission and values further impressed me and I approached Mrs. Coffin about teaching at Ivy Hall.

I am the third of eight children, mother of five, and Grammie to four elementary-aged boys. I grew up in Utah, lived in Pennsylvania for twenty years, and then moved back to Utah.

My skills and experience are in both writing and teaching. I earned a B.A. in English from BYU, worked as a writing tutor at BYU and worked as a technical writer at Novell before my children were born.

While living in Pennsylvania, I could not find a suitable school for my children, so I home-schooled my four sons for more than twenty-five years. They have since graduated from BYU with degrees in Information Systems, Neuroscience, Supply Chain Management and Mechanical Engineering. My oldest son is now pursuing an Educational Doctorate at Baylor University. My youngest child, and only daughter, wanted to go to school once her brothers all left home. She is in ninth grade and loves playing the piano, organ, saxophone, and clarinet.

I have discovered that children have a natural fascination with the world and a natural desire to learn. Given skillful guidance, they will enthusiastically pursue knowledge and new skills. I love facilitating that magical process and am thrilled to begin teaching at Ivy Hall starting in the fall of 2021.

I love all the seasons and that each one has its own unique beauty.

I love to ski, bike, swim, hike, and practice yoga. I also love to read, garden,
cook and do needlework.

I love fresh fruits and vegetables—especially straight from my garden.

I was born in Nebraska, but I moved when I was a baby: from Nebraska to New York to New Mexico to Utah.

I love the desert in the springtime, places like Kanab and Moab.

I would love to have you as one of my amazing 4th grade students to learn and grow together!
