This will be my twentieth year teaching and my thirteenth year at Ivy Hall. I have taught first, fourth and fifth grades. I also worked as a special education aide for one year. My fifth grade teacher was my all-time favorite teacher. Mrs. Harrison showed me the delight and value of continuous learning. She had fun with us and laughed and cried with us. I believe that is why I love teaching today. The students help me feel energy, joy, and drive. I cannot imagine a better way to spend my day!
I am passionate about having fun, laughing, and finding reasons to celebrate, to sing, and to dance. (I am NOT a dancer but it’s hard to hold still when there are reasons to jump around.) I like to incorporate all those things into my classroom. When we can learn and have fun, it is easier to rally when challenges arise. I find that when students can laugh together and celebrate together, they can better recognize how and when to respond to their classmates who may be struggling with various challenges. I love seeing their goodness and their hearts as they interact. It gives me hope and reassurance for their futures.
